RIBA mocks clients with loaded SFA/92

Article Abstract:

RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) has published its new Standard Form of Agreement of an Architect 1992 which is being opposed by the British Property Federation. Some of the terms which are being opposed are: architects on a percentage fee will still be paid on total construction cost and claims under the building contract; architects can terminate appointment at any time; clients are not allowed to use any design until the scheme is complete; architects' negligence shall be covered and clients cannot recover without the architect's agreement or after an arbitrator's award.

Don't just blame design and build

Article Abstract:

Desgin and build contracts are often blamed for the poor quality of building design but the contract is not the main cause of low standards. Design and build contracts have clauses which enable clients to remain involved in the aesthetic aspects of the project throughout construction. Clients should specify the required standards in the contract and exercise their rights to comment on detailed designs and to inspect the work in progress.

Similar, but not the same
