Real to acquire First Class Marketing

Real Marketing Services, the telemarketing subsidiary of Woodland Hills, CA-based Real Entertainment Inc., is set to acquire the Carlsbad, CA-based telemarketing service bureau called First Class Marketing Inc. for an undisclosed price. The deal is expected to generate a combined annual revenue of $16 million in 1998 as well as double Real's call center capacity to about 300 seats. The combined call centers will handle both inbound calls and outbound sales for several direct response marketing clients as well as back-end marketing of Real Entertainment's video and related merchandise offers for television shows.

K-Tel, GRTV Network ink show deal

K-Tel International Inc., a Los Angeles, CA-based marketer of entertainment products, has forged a programming deal with Guthy-Renker Corp.'s GRTV Network to promote "K-Tel Express," its online music service launched on May 1, 1998. GRTV Network is slated to begin broadcasting the daily half-hour music show pitching K-Tel products on June 1998. The network airs DRTV programming to 35 million cable homes and to satellite dish owners. K-Tel's stock rose from 6 5/8 on April 8 to a high of 78 15/16 on May 5 and the company attributed the stock surge primarily to its successful music Web site.
