Scrapped for cash
Article Abstract:
UK main contractor Rydon Construction is keen to benefit financially from sorting and recycling site waste. For its 13.5 million pounds sterling contract to construct 265 public sector homes for three housing associations in Eastbourne, England, for example, it hopes to make savings of between 30,000 pounds sterling and 40,000 pounds sterling by recycling waste. This will give it a profit margin of 5% of the contract value, a very high level for the UK construction industry. The company has already gained a positive reputation for its unusual approaches to site management.

Flat-top hard hats and flip-flops ...
Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly common for construction clients in India to turn to western contractors to ensure that projects are completed quickly. Similarly, western construction firms are now keen to operate in India, which they regard as having very good prospects. McAlpine, which has no experience of construction management in the UK, has been particularly active in India through a 50/50 joint venture with Indian hotel operator Oberoi. It is not making a profit from its work in India yet, and employs only a small number of expatriates in order to keep costs low.
