Research brings breath of fresh air
Article Abstract:
Some large new buildings in the UK feature displacement ventilation, but speculative office developers have generally not used these systems, as they fear that they will not be able to cope with large office heat loads. However, the Building Services Research and Information Association has now produced research which may make developers feel more confident about using low-energy, natural ventilation systems. It has been shown that displacement ventilation is effective for heat loadings below 20 W/mt sq, and that such a system can provide fresh air without cold pockets.

Article Abstract:
ProCom is a cost management software package for the construction industry. The software was designed by Currie and Brown in order to manage the costs of changes to designs, for their clients, during construction work. It allows clients to see how any changes to their designs will affect the overall cost of a project. Cost consultants Currie and Brown initially developed ProCom whilst working on the 50 million pounds sterling Heathrow Terminal 2 project where some 2,000 changes were made to the designs.

Bed spread
Article Abstract:
Many top hotel operators plan to add to their capacity in the UK, especially in London, where there is a severe shortage of hotel accommodation. This could present valuable opportunities for construction contractors which have experience in the hotel sector. Those not already present in this sector may find it hard to establish a presence there. However, they may be offered opportunities if they can show experience in the leisure sector.
