Shareholder suit againts ICT group dismissed

Article Abstract:

ICT Group Inc., a Langhorne, PA-based provide of call center teleservices for sales, marketing and customer care, announced the dismissal of a class action suit that accused it and some of its directors of violating provisions of the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. Judge Charles R. Weiner of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania dismissed the suit on May 19, 1998, citing that the suit failed to state a claim upon which relief could be granted. Judge Weiner granted the plaintiff leave to file an amended complaint with respect to one category of allegations not sufficiently pled.

High Court upholds driver data case

Article Abstract:

The Supreme Court has announced a unanimous ruling which upheld the power of the Congress to protect motorists' privacy. The decision involved the case Reno vs Condon in which South Carolina had challeged the Driver's Privacy Protection Act of 1994. The state questioned the authority of the Congress to release age data and other information on drivers' licenses and motor vehicle records. The Supreme Court ruled the law was a proper exercise of the Congress' authority to regulate state commerce.

SEC investigates MicroStrategy accounting

Article Abstract:

Data mining software vendor MicroStrategy's accounting practices are being investigated by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Also included in its investigation is MicroStrategy's relationship with its auditor, PricewaterhouseCoopers. The SEC's objective is to determine if MicroStrategy Inc is prematurely booking revenue to report profits instead of losses and if PricewaterhouseCooper is influencing its audit partners' approval of possible overly aggressive accounting.
