Smart retailers lock up the market
Article Abstract:
Smart manufactured home retailers know that locking up project homes on display have several advantages over allowing such displays to remain open for unattended viewing. The purpose of locking up such displays is to discouraged such unattended viewing and use customer assistance as a tool to increase the potential of consummated sales. Locking up such displays not only protects the integrity of the home and its furnishings, which increases the display's potential to attract home buyers, but also allows the retailer some control over the sales process. Retailers must learn to use such information as the number of customers entering such displays, the assistance offered by employees and how many such assistance have lead to sales, in improving their sales performance and refining sales strategy.

The prefabricated housing sector is forecast to sustain growth through the year 2000 if economic factors remain constant according to the CIT Group/Sales Financing firm. Decreased growth rates are expected to occur in 1999 and 2000, with a slackening in shipments in 1999. Shipments are expected to increase by 1.65% in 1999 and 1.9% in the year 2000. Shipments of multi-section homes continue to contribute to the sector's performance with an unprecedented 564,202 units in 1997.
