Article Abstract:

Users of buildings usually place more emphasis on having an easily managed building than on reduced energy consumption, according to the Post-occupancy Review of Building Engineering, made up of surveys of comfort in eight occupied buildings which were undertaken in the UK in 1996. Feilden Clegg Architects was responsible for designing the West Downs Student Village in Winchester, England. This development, which has 665 self-catering study-bedrooms, is built around a central pedestrianized street, giving a strong sense of community. The scheme cost 14,000 pounds sterling per study-bedroom.
