Study: 45% buy via phone
Article Abstract:
A survey conducted by the American Teleservices Assn (ATA) showed that 45% of respondents used the telephone to make a purchase in 2000, compared with 37% for the Internet. The ATA's survey of 1,000 consumers during Feb and Mar 2001 revealed that people between 45 and 54 had the highest percentages of purchases over the telephone, at 60%. On the other hand, consumers between 25 to 34 made the most number of Internet purchases, at 50%. The study added that reluctance to use the Internet for personal purchases increased with age.

FTC pursues deceptive claims, cyberfraud
Article Abstract:
The Federal Trade Commission has announced that it will target fraudulent and illegal marketing practices on the Internet. Among these are credit repair scams, pyramid selling schemes and business opporunity schemes involving inflated income claims. The agency has already filed cases against mainstream advertisers such as Dell Computer Corp and Micron Technology, and against major ISP providers - America Online, CompuServe and Prodigy.
