Article Abstract:
Software firm Siteman is using the opinion of construction industry firms on the future use of information technology in the profession in relation to development projects. Siteman managing director Phil Brown believes the information gained from the industry through forums allows the cost-control software house to develop packages which meet the needs of construction firms. Siteman produced a turnover of 1.3 million pounds sterling during its first year of trading in 1998. One of the disadvantages of a Siteman system is the high level of training needed to get users started.

The morning after
Article Abstract:
The year 2000 millenium bug is expected to affect up to 80% of UK computer systems, and will cost nearly 30 billion pounds sterling to rectify. Construction industry problems involve re-programming computer systems and updating computer-controlled building security systems, which have been installed in developments since 1982. Such systems will not be able to recognize the date 2000 and controls for environmental and security settings will be inoperable. A survey of construction firms found 2.6% had dealt with the problem, while 15.8% had not begun.
