Dollan Baths in East Kilbride, Scotland, has been updated to reflect 1990s tastes. The refurbishment and remodelling cost 4.5 million pounds sterling. FaulknerBrowns, architect, designed the sports facility. The 50 mt long pool was divided into two pools, one for serious swimming and the other for leisure. There is a floating floor at the deep end. The children's pool has a tubular water ride.

Local authorities will have to spend a lot on refurbishing and repairing their public sports centres in England over the next five years. Local authorities spent 49.1 million pounds sterling on repairs and refurbishing in 1993/94. They need to spend roughly 105 million pounds sterling annually over the next five years, estimates the Sports Council.

Forest's hat trick

Waltham Forest's Housing Action Trust has built 170 new terrace houses in east London to help regenerate the community. Residents of the nearby tower blocks were able to move directly into the new homes which contain a rich mixe of features such as gable fronts, pitched roof canopies, two tone brickwork and dormer windows.
