UK construction firm Mansell has invested 6 million pounds sterling in computer technology since 1989. Mansell's hardware and software has been developed by Information Systems Mgr Clive Taylor. The computer network system is used for almost all of Mansell's work, apart from the estimating system for bills of quantity. It uses an IBM AS400. About 475 of the company's 796 staff uses the system. There are 250 screen-only terminals, over 100 PCs and 25 laptops. The company's next step is to replace its Lamex accounting system.

Research into stress in the workplace has found that not taking breaks and holidays can reduce efficiency and endanger health. Thee is a proven linke between overwork and ill-health, and as stress increases individuals are often less capable of taking a break to combat it. Construction consultants and contractors are starting to recognise the importance of employee holidays, and encourage staff to take holidays.

The east stand of the London Stadium Hackney, a greyhound stadium in London, England, is being rebuilt. Construction manager Arnold Project Services is undertaking the task on a budget of 6.5 million pounds sterling. The stand is set to open in September 1995. The 130 mt long stand will be able to hold 3,500 spectators.
