Article Abstract:
Building tender prices have decreased by 2% in the third Qtr of 1992. New order figures have decreased by 18% in the year to Sep 1992 from the year to May 1991. Figures from the Central Statistical Office show an increase of 0.7% in construction material for the year to Aug 1992. It is believed that there will be a 2% wage rise in 1993. Mechanical costs have increased by 2.8% and electrical costs by 5.1%. The best performing region is Scotland where commissions have increased by 67%. The worst region is the South West where work has decreased by 50%.

A quarterly listing based on tenders received from UK quantity surveyor Davis Langdon and Everest and Spon's updated version of 'Architects'and Builders' Price Book' for the final Qtr of 1992 provides prices and labour rates. Prices in Scotland have decreased by 4% compared to 8% in the South East during 1992. Tables provide information on variation in bid prices in different areas, revised tender prices and current standard hourly labour rates.

Article Abstract:
An analysis of the differences in the cost of house building in The Netherlands compared to the UK is presented. The effect on the cost of a project, if techniques from The Netherlands are used in the UK, are also evaluated.
