Hanging together
Article Abstract:
The UK recession has eroded business for the suspended ceiling and partition industries by 40% since 1990. A merger of the 2 trade associations, the Partitioning Industry Association and the Suspended Ceilings Association is supported by many. Membership of the 2 associations is decreasing and it is unlikely that the construction industry needs 2 such separate bodies. The main arguments supporting the merger are that most companies would secure better on-site control and that business interests could be diversified. Opponents claim that a merger would encourage poor workmanship.
