Tour of duties
Article Abstract:
RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) has published a study entitled Strategic Study of the Profession which cost 50,000 pounds sterling. RIBA has organised 20 road shows throughout the UK from Sep 28 to Dec 1992 to discuss the future of the profession with members. If funding is provided it will commence on the 2nd phase of the study which will act as the blueprint for architects' practice. Results from roadshows in Oct 1992 were that architects should focus more on economics of practice; work towards client requirement and that more intensive professional development courses should be provided.

Double or quits
Article Abstract:
One hundred-strong UK quantity surveyors (QS) McBains and 80-strong QS Henry Cooper will merge on Jul 1, 1993, creating a new firm McBains Cooper. The main reason for merger was competitive rather than financial. The recession has resulted in a competitive market where it is increasingly difficult for medium-sized QS firms to survive. The merger will result in a 10 million pounds sterling turnover. Economies will not be high in the short-term as Manchester and London are the only places where the 2 practices have offices. No redunancies are planned as staff cuts have already taken place.
