US online music store challenges European market
Article Abstract:
N2K, the US online entertainment group, has teamed up with music distributors MSI of Miami, FL, to create a distribution center in Europe for its Music Boulevard online CD superstore. The proposed European distribution center will be based in the Netherlands, and would form part of N2K's strategy to create a worldwide chain of online record stores. The online music market in Europe is still young compared to the US market, where consumers have been used to purchasing albums by mail order from Internet retailers. J.J. Rosen, senior VP of N2K Entertainment, said the alliance would form a worldwide distribution system that would better serve both European and US customers. The proposed distribution center would offer more than 150,000 US released music titles to European customers.
