Genesis Direct drops first European catalog
Article Abstract:
Genesis Direct, based in Windsor, UK, has rolled out a USA Pro Sports catalog in April 1998 aimed at European and American expatriate football, baseball and hockey fans in France, Germany and the UK. The catalog offers a selection of team merchandise that are not available or difficult to find in Europe. Genesis VP International Edward Wallo would not say the total number of catalogs distributed in the three countries in April, but he said that the distribution surpassed USPS' offer to assist catalogers with the first 25,000 catalogs used in a test. The merchandise in the catalog are priced in pounds, francs and German marks. The company also used the services of UK-based Judith Donovan Agency to run small space ads in the three markets.

Dockers Direct tests Europe book with questionnaire
Article Abstract:
Dockers Direct has mailed questionnaires to find out customers' reaction to its year-long catalog test in France and in the UK. The questionnaires, which were mailed to 300 to 400 buyers and inquirers, contain 16 questions designed to ferret out the customers' opinion on Dockers trousers and Dockers Direct catalog, as well as their buying behavior. So far, the catalog test, which is still ongoing, has mailed about 100,000 20-page books to prospects in the UK and France. The company has yet to decide whether to roll out a catalog as it is still trying to learn more about direct marketing through the test, said Docker spokesman Nick Solger.
