Discussion on garnet provenance studies, juxtaposition of Laurentian marginal terranes and timing of the grampian orogeny in Scotland
Article Abstract:
A.R. Hutchison and G.J.H. Oliver justifiably claimed regional implications of the results of their research on detrital garnet. They covered the late Ordovician turbidites from the Southern Uplands terrane which they observed to be of Barrovian type which arose from the erosion of the Dalradian Supergroup. This was used to support a Dalradian provenance for the Kirkcolm Formation. Their conclusion contradicted earlier assumptions regarding comparative Nd isotope compositions.

Comparative study of yttrium and rare-earth element behaviors in fluorine-rich hydrothermal fluids
Article Abstract:
A comparative study shows that yttrium (Y) and rare-earth elements (REE) are closely related in fluorite-precipitating solutions. Non-chondritic Y/Ho ratio is varying, up to 200, for hydrothermal vein fluorites, which is in contrast to igneous and clastic rocks. In fluorine-rich medium-temperature aqueous fluids , Y and Ho may be fractionated. The details of the comparative study, its results and discussion are given.

Rare earth element chemistry of zircon and its use as a provenance indicator
Article Abstract:
Zircon rare earth elements show a narrow abundance range without systematic differences in pattern shape. This shows such abundances are usually not a useful indicator of provenance.
