Report from the International Workshop on Remote Sensing in Geophysics Using Doppler Techniques

Article Abstract:

The 1998 International Workshop on Remote Sensing in Geophysics Using Doppler Techniques was held to discuss various applications of Doppler remote sensing from sea surface sensing to radar astronomy and from wind profiling to atmospheric boundary layer sensing. Some of the topics discussed in the workshop include use of Doppler spectrum to study atmospheric turbulence, techniques in seismic prospecting, radar astronomy and meteorological radar simulation.

Workshop on targeted observations for extratropical forecasting

Article Abstract:

The Nov 5, 1998 meeting on tropical and extratropical forecasting focused on targeted observation techniques for forecasting improvement. These included charting out specific regions within the upstream area of a cyclone for data measurement, and utilizing quasi-inverse methods and adjoint- and ensemble-based approaches.
