Sensor reveals clear-air turbulence in time to issue warnings
Article Abstract:
A novel clear-air turbulence sensor was tested using an Electra airplane owned by the National Science Foundation and operated by the National Center for Atmospheric Research. The experiment, which was conducted in collaboration with NASA and Coherent Technologies Inc, showed that the sensor was able to determine turbulent air patches. Findings indicated that the sensor can be utilized in commercial planes to prevent injuries to crews and passengers.
