Macroeconomic forecasting at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research is discussed. Topics include the problem of macroeconomic forecasting, characteristics of a good forecast, the forecasting model used at the Melbourne Institute, use of the model to determine probability of recessions and to evaluate government budget forecasts, and selected forecasts.
