It's all about events dear boy

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the increase in popularity of politics as subject for study and research at universities in the United Kingdom. It is suggested that a number of issues - including the events of 11 September 2001, the war in Iraq, terrorism, globalisation and asylum seekers - have contributed to the increasing popularity of politics. Applications for politics and government courses in the UK rose by 6.6% this year after rising by 15.4% the year before. Political research in the UK is also buoyant, with the country being second only to the US in terms of academic output.
