Strangers in paradise
Article Abstract:
University expeditions can make a valuable contribution in addressing priority issues that have been identified by larger organisations attempting to tackle such problems as poverty, human rights and environmental pollution. The 1,000 students who planned and completed projects abroad in 1995 were motivated by an interest in the affairs of the world and a desire to work with other young people from different cultures. University expeditions require considerable commitment in terms of money and time, but students gain a deeper and more realistic understanding of world issues.
