Tales from the wood
Article Abstract:
The family-owned and Aberdeenshire-based log construction building firm A G Stuart is reaping success despite receiving a seemingly larger share of the problems faced by Scottish businesses. With managing director Bryan Stuart in charge A G Stuart endured times of declining demand through phone-and-letter marketing, consequently generating business through personal recommendations and repeat orders. The company employed automation, specifically conputer-aided design (CAD), to augment shortages in skilled labor. To address the challenges resulting from its remoteness from the imminent single European market, the company emphasized th quality and uniqueness of its product. The efforts of A G Stuart to hurdle the challenges it faced paid off and the company has become the only UK producer of heavy-duty log construction buildings.

The new bank that likes to say yes
Article Abstract:
Millions of people throughout the world are being assisted out of poverty by the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh established by economics professor Muhammad Yunus. The bank initially loaned only to the poorest people such as landless women who are helped out of poverty by not having to borrow from extortionist money lenders. Yunus initially lent people money from his own resources and developed schemes to enable the borrowers to quickly repay their loans. Banks initially claimed the scheme was inoperable, but the Grameen Bank has a 98% repayment rate from its 2 million borrowers and is now profitable.

The perils of disk-covery
Article Abstract:
Electronic data, despite the aggregate amount of valuable information it provides, may lead a firm to massive losses. Companies who fail to comply with federal discovery policies may find themselves struggling with high litigation expenses. Firms may prevent the occurrence of these risks by ensuring that mandatory disclosures are submitted on required dates, consistent assessment of records and adopting efficient policies in retrieving data.
