Writing on the wall for goddesses
Article Abstract:
The balance of power between the genders may be affected by the predominant type of communication used in a culture. Communication can be achieved either through the alphabet or by pictures. The position of women in society was enhanced when literacy levels were low. The increasing use of visual images through the television and computers, in the 20th century, may be linked to the growing importance of female values in society. The decline of goddesses as deities seems to have be related to the introduction of the alphabet.
