Article Abstract:
At a conference on disarmament in Geneva, Switzerland, on August 10 1995, France announced that it would test just eight bombs in the South Pacific, then stop. The announcement was met with international approval. Greenpeace-France, however, has pointed out that the French Ambassador, Gerard Errera, made an official announcement on June 29 1995 that if France found that she needed to carry out tests, for the sake of the security of her nuclear weapons, she could withdraw from any agreement on the subject.
