$7B loss prompts discussions
Article Abstract:
US retailers lost a combined total of $7 billion due to product returns in 1997. The loss was disclosed at the Product Returns '98 conference that was held at Chicago, IL, and sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Assn. The loss, according to speakers at the conference, can be traced to the move by retailers to relax existing policies on product returns. That move resulted in a 2% increase in the total product returns for 1997 compared to return figures in 1996.
