Glass suppliers cannot match surging TV demand
Article Abstract:
Color TV manufacturers are faced with a shortage of glass bulbs for the larger TV screen sizes that they are producing. Glass manufacturers are predicting that supplies of glass bulbs for the sets may fall 5% short of global demand despite the 8% increase in production by leading companies. The global output of color TV is expected to exceed 140 million units in FY2000 which represents an increase of 7% to 8% from FY1999. Except for Nippon Electric Glass and Asahi Glass, other manufacturers are not planning on raising their production of glass bulbs.
