Creationists and the Pope's statement
Article Abstract:
The Pope's statement on evolution to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in Oct 1996 should have a greater effect on the general American public than on scientists. Design theorists and conservative Christians believe the Pope's statement supports their contention of evolution as a materialist philosophy. Creationists contend the Pope's statement is incompatible with the Christian position and has come at a time when the evolution theory is in crisis.

New model could vastly improve CMP processes
Article Abstract:
Conexant Systems' Bin Zhao and UC Irvine's Frank G Shi have developed a model with extensive applications to chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) consumables development and CMP process optimization. The model shows that the polishing rate in dielectric and metal CMP exhibited pressure dependence. The P2/3 dependence of applied pressure on removal rate was observed in applications of different slurries, film types and removal properties.
