A small electric jolt gets minerals out of cooling water
Article Abstract:
Global Water Technologies, Inc. (GWT), based in Golden, CO, produces an electromagnetic water-treatment service, that could be used for scale control. Timothy Kast, a technical director for the cooling-tower maker, said the method triggers the precipitation of dissolved minerals to facilitate filtration. GWT obtained a license for the water-treatment technology from Boothwyn, PA-based Electronic Descaling 2000. The latter developed the process with help from Philadelphia-based Mechanical Engineering Dept. of Drexel University. A pulsed d.c. current of 2-5 amps and 12 V is transmitted by the system through a solenoid coil.

BOD measurement in real time
Article Abstract:
Wallace and Tiernan Pacific Proprietary Ltd. of Artamon, Australia, launched the industry's first-ever largest and trustworthy device for measuring biological oxygen demand (BOD), the Readily Assimilable Chemical Oxygen Demand (Racod) meter. The Racod meter has an accuracy of about 3 milligrams per liter or 1.5% and it electronically displays the results of the measured effluent. Wallace and Tiernan anticipates that the product's application will include food and beverage, and sewerage sectors. The company has also licensed its parent, U.S. Filter Corp., to market the device globally.
