Aftermath of battle: using new applications in clearing unexploded ordnance
Article Abstract:
It has been relatively uncommon for quality tools to be employed when dealing with unexploded ordnance (UXO). There is a clear need for quality assurance and quality control in this area, but limited progress has been made towards a quality assurance UXO discipline so far. Quality techniques that can be applied to the UXO problem include measurement system evaluation, statistical process control, calibration of instrumentation and data quality control and quality assurance.

Durable LVDTs ideal in new gage applications
Article Abstract:
The linear variable-differential transformer (LVDT) can produce electrical output in proportion to the displacement of its core. Voltages of opposite polarity are produced from two secondary coils as the primary coil is energized by an AC source. Moving the core into different positions increases or decreases the voltage production. The benefits of LVDT in electronic gages include perpetual mechanical life and absence of friction.

Wavelet applications in medicine
Article Abstract:
Wavelet transforms are particularly useful in medical diagnostics because they can perform high-quality compression of nonstationary biomedical signals. Wavelet techniques expand, contract and shift the prototype function to provide detailed information for diagnostic examination. Wavelets can also be used to identify heart disease, breast cancer and speech analysis.
