An automated welding operation planning system for block assembly in shipbuilding
Article Abstract:
An automatic welding operation planning system for block assembly in shipbuilding that consists of four modules has been developed using the expert system tool Smart Elements. The system performs the determination of the four modules of welding postures, welding methods, welding equipment and welding materials. Verification of the system using actual block and implementation in a block assembly shop have demonstrated its effective use for real blocks constructed in shipyard.

Module-based intelligent advisory system
Article Abstract:
The principle of advisory system architecture as applied to part manufacturing systems is proposed. The object-oriented and two-level functioning system is comprised of problem modules, some of which are the turning tool selection module, the tool material selection module, the part and feature classification module and the decision-making supporting module. These modules allow the user to select the necessary configuration of the system.
