Asia bounces back
Article Abstract:
The chemical process industries in Asia have shown restructuring, recovery and revitalization in 1999, after experiencing a regionwide turmoil in 1997. Countries in the region posted recoveries: Japan has reported three consecutive months of positive growth; Singapore is expected to register a growth rate of 6% in 1999; South Korea has registered a 30% growth in industrial production in 1999; Thailand and Indonesia both posted trade surpluses of 25% in 1999. As a result, foreign chemical companies are returning to the region to invest and expand their operations.

Process intensification magnifies profits
Article Abstract:
Process intensification is a radical design technique which encourages a basic assessment of process and business requirements while furnishing a comprehensive set of compact and highly efficient process technologies. Because of its significant advantages, this design approach is rapidly being embraced by the chemical process industries. The number of economic, social and environmental drivers to the pursuit of process intensification is expanding beyond the initial reduction of infrastructure costs.
