Big Three are serious about QS-9000 certification
Article Abstract:
The big three automobile makers, namely, General Motors, Chrysler and Ford Motor, are determined to implement compliance for the QS-9000 certification for suppliers. Suppliers who are not QS-9000 certified cannot conduct business with automobile makers which can result in the loss of preferential Q1 status. In the survey conducted by Auto Industry Action Group, there are 2,791 certified suppliers in 1997 with average cost of registration worth $118,000 and average benefit of certification being $304,000. Efforts are also being exerted for international recognition of the QS-9000 standards.

What's the long-term cost of short-term profits?
Article Abstract:
The Communications Workers of America (CWA) is working towards convincing management of the need to invest in human resource development to achieve higher productivity and profits. CWA aims at promoting employee involvement in organizations' strategic decision-making process. Managements should be counselled about the harmful effects of downsizing for short-term profits. CWA's efforts to implement the Quality of Work Life program at AT&T have received a setback due to the pressures of technological changes and global competition.
