Maximising the 'benefits per dollar' to customers: a new organisational focus
Article Abstract:
Trends in management over the last ten years have become increasingly focused on customer service and quality. However, such techniques are not expected to to be competitive enough in future markets. Firms will have to adopt strategies which center on increasing 'benefit per dollar' or BPD of customers. BPD methods of firms will focus attention on activities which add value including engineering, line operations, marketing, and information systems.

Modelling resource supply and demand: expanding the utility of ABC
Article Abstract:
A more complete perspective of cost behavior may be achieved by studying both ledger systems and activity-based costing (ABC). ABC was designed to quantify resource demand rates rather than resource supply rates. A method for relating changes in demanded resources by activities to spending changes was developed to integrate the two concepts. ABC systems were perceived to be adaptable in providing information on profitability.

Modelling resource supply and demand: expanding the utility of ABC
Article Abstract:
Activity-based costing (ABC) systems have been useful as cost management tools in the case of operational requirements for resource allocation. However, such systems do not address issues of spending change and profits since ABC focuses only on resource demand and not supply. It is shown that an ABC system can be modified to integrate the effects of resource supply rates and include profitability as a cost factor.
