Eating the elephant one bite at a time
Article Abstract:
The software company Sybase obtained ISO 9001/TickIt registration for 80% of its engineering teams by maintaining a sense of humor and purpose, preventing repetition of previous mistakes, and using the critical success factor. ISO 9000 is a means of increasing interaction between organizations and their customers, and improving performance. All ISO 9000 processes must first be viable from the business point of view. Increasing employee participation and responsibility facilitates the registration process. Steps taken by Sybase to get its registration are discussed.

ISO 9001 and health care
Article Abstract:
A number of health care organizations in the US are currently preparing for registration under the ISO 9001 quality management system, seeking to join the around six hospitals and clinics that have already registered to this standard. It is important to consider how this standard's 20 elements apply to health care providers seeking to obtain the benefits of certification. It is clear that ISO 9001 is a substantial improvement on other accreditation schemes in some areas. It offers a systematic and structured approach to health care.

Are ISO/QS-9000 certifications worth the time and money?
Article Abstract:
The first ISO 9000 standards editions were published in 1987 and today they have been adopted by over 90 countries. The standards have been used as a basis for other industry-specific standards. A survey was undertaken to quantify some of the perceptions of the standards and to provide data to companies considering implementing ISO/QS-9000 quality systems. Companies receive, or expected to receive several benefits and the overall attitude was positive. Costs were an issue but companies will save money in the long term.
