A bullish global forecast for chemical demand
Article Abstract:
Global chemical demand is projected to grow by an average of 3.6% annually through the year 2010. This is an improvement over the 2.6% annual growth posted between 1979 and 1996. At the rate of 3.6% per year, global demand for chemicals will reach $2,400 billion by 2010, and volume should grow by 63% in real terms from 1996. The growth is attributed to the stronger GDP figures in many regions, increased demand by developing countries and anticipated recovery in Central and Eastern Europe and in Asia.

Extremophiles keep oil flowing
Article Abstract:
Halliburton Energy Services Div plans to add a thermophilic enzyme that is produced by Diversa Corp into its proprietary fracturing-fluids. These enzymes are natural polymers that are utilized under high pressures to form fissures in rock formations. The Diversa enzymes are expected to degrade the materials, reduce their viscosity and allow oil to flow through the fissures.
