Conical helical gears control backlash: tapered helical gears are the key to an innovative backlash control mechanism in a high reduction gearbox
Article Abstract:
A new backlash control mechanism within a gearbox has been developed based on tapered involute helical gearing. It is derived from the Wolfrom gearbox which uses a central sun gear to drive a set of meshing planet gears to which are fixed smaller gears which mesh with ring gears. In the new design the helical involute planet gears tilt towards the fron of the gearbox forming a conical profile, rather than running parallel to the central gearbox axis.

A guide to helical spring selection
Article Abstract:
The basic design and material selection of compression and tension springs, which are the most common type of springs employed by industry, are presented. It is strongly recommended that, wherever possible, springs should be designed before the details of housings or other adjacent parts are finally established to minimize restrictions on the design of the spring by ensuring that adequate space is allowed.

Customers drive new valve design: pneumatic valve technology takes a step forware with the introduction of a new system bristling with innovation
Article Abstract:
A new pneumatic solenoid valve has been developed by engineers, which offers improved flow, longer life and reduced power consumption. It is smaller and faster than previous valves and has the general appearance of an electronic product found inside a control cabinet. The valve is attatched to the manifold with a clamping plate and a securing claw to ensure an air tight seal against the manifold gasket.
