Designing scheduling systems for packaging in process industries: a tobacco company case

Article Abstract:

A study demonstrated how practical and theoretical insights can be applied to develop scheduling support systems for packaging products in a process industry. The focus of the study was on the packaging department of a specific tobacco company whose scheduling software systems cannot adequately support production scheduling functions. Findings indicate that a proper insights into the scheduling situation is required to design an effective scheduling system.

Fuzzy job shop scheduling

Article Abstract:

Many past studies have come up with models of job shop scheduling utilizing crisp information, rather than taking into account fuzzy information that are most often given in real life. Using L.A. Zadeh's fuzzy theory, a job shop scheduling problem using fuzzy information is determined. Dynamic problems encountered while handling fuzzy information are discussed.

Efficient dispatching rules for scheduling in a job shop

Article Abstract:

New dispatching guidelines for scheduling in a job shop is presented. These guidelines are founded on the additive fusion of the process time, entire work-content of jobs in the order of ensuing operation of a job, arrival time and slack of a job. It has been established that no singular guideline is adequate in lessening all benchmarks of performance.
