Efficiency of size sorting of fish
Article Abstract:
The efficiency of machine sorting in reducing production costs is examined by studying the fish canning and salting industries in Argentina. The advantages and disadvantages of fish sorting by size were also analyzed based on such factors as size distribution and cost structure of the industry. Machine sorting was found to decrease costs by increasing the yield in the heading operation and the overall efficiency of the rest of the line. Small increases in yield and productivity, in particular, lead to significant cost reductions. Although it boosts investment and process complexity, it also improves the quality of end products.

The rate of return regulated version of Farrell efficiency
Article Abstract:
Most descriptions of rate-of-return regulated pricing present a simplistic view that assumes efficiency of managerial performance. This perspective ignores the role of managerial behavior and market risks in price determination. To evaluate managerial performance, Farrell efficiency measures were defined for firms under rate-of-return regulation. Although the methodology developed was used to analyze rate-of-return regulation, it can also be applied to other regulation types.

Choice of metric in the measurement of relative productive efficiency
Article Abstract:
The efficiency of data envelope analysis (DEA) models are analyzed. These come in five types, namely, radial or non-radial, input or output, primal or dual, linear or nonlinear and with or without exogenous prices. The main advantage of DEA is its ability to measure efficiency relative to other firms. However, evaluating a firm's behavior would require the development of a quantitative index of efficiency.
