Evaluation of Different Modalities of Verbalization in a Sorting Task
Article Abstract:
Verbalization of activities is being revived as a method of studying cognitive processes. Modern tools facilitate a formalization of context of verbal reports and correlating non- verbal behavior with verbal reports. Three types of verbalization were studied - simultaneous, subsequent aided and subsequent unaided. Simultaneous seems to slow down the automation of an activity. Subsequent aided permits automation and concise reports. Subsequent unaided produces too much distance from the task, thereby compromising the validity of the data.

Two-location gauge evaluation: a simple method for solving testing problems
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to develop a simple method for comparing two testing fixtures situated in separate facilities. This method has been demonstrated in relation to performance testing of small automotive motors for revolutions per minute. The technique involves separating the sequence effects from the location effect, and later identifying the sequence effects. Many tester-to-tester comparisons have been undertaken where the same group of parts is tested on different testers, but this version separates the tester from the time factors.

Same paper, different news
Article Abstract:
Xerox's Palo Alto Research Centre is developing a paper replacement which can be used many times and which has applications in the publishing and newspaper industries. Gyricon is a transparent rubber sheet containing thousands of bichromal pellets which can be orientated using an electric field to form an image which can be viewed in reflective light. Resolution is around 100 dpi but smaller pellets are being developed with resolutions of 200-300 dpi.
