Automated Board Testing: Coping with Complex Circuits
Article Abstract:
Printed-circuit boards are becoming harder to test and are requiring automated test equipment and structured design to ease the work. Testability audits can be automted if design rules and CAD-supported scan design are employed to limit complexity. Self-testing circuits will test portions of circuits that simulators can not test. Several computer tools aid in transfer of information between testing teams and automation of test generation. Many firms perform in-circuit testing of each board component only and not the entire integrated board. Several diagrams illustrate testing procedures.

Hand-held troubleshooter checks digital circuits
Article Abstract:
Computer hardware manufacturer Hewlett-Packard Co.'s hand-held logic probe HP E2310A, otherwise known as the LogicDart, is a handy device which is straightforward to use and inexpensive. It is designed to help engineers identify the cause of electronic circuit difficulties and includes a digital multimeter which measures direct current supply voltages, resistance, continuity and frequency. Its three-channel logic timing analyzer takes on data at 100 MHz communication speeds. It costs 795 US dollars.
