ISO 9000: rising to the next level
Article Abstract:
Being rewarded with an ISO certification should not be an end in itself for businesses. Certification will not guarantee good products and will not speak for itself. Businesses should, therefore, have an understanding of what it is that they have accomplished by attaining an ISO certification. It should be viewed as the foundation for top-notch quality. As such, it is only the beginning of a never-ending process of the quality process.

Help wanted: shortage of workers rocks industry boat
Article Abstract:
US industries are facing another potential shortage of skilled workers in 1998 following increased demand by businesses. The trend, which started in 1997, is forecasted to continue with some 32% of the manufacturing sector looking for new employees and only about 7% reducing workers. The shortage has prompted firms to resort to employee recruitment tactics such as open house sessions and on-campus recruitment drives.

To choose or not to choose? Computer training vs. human instruction
Article Abstract:
Managers can decide whether to use computer-based training (CBT) or human instructors by evaluating company needs. While CBT is less costly, managers should determine if computers can teach the skills needed, simulate actual work experiences and address individual employee situations. By targeting these issues, managers can create efficient instructional programs.
