Reorganize or bust
Article Abstract:
Newly privatized companies in eastern Europe without the support of foreign investors need to reorganize to survive. In the US, many flagging businesses unable to ward off bankruptcy through short-term bank loans are saved by worker-management buy-outs. Rather than see their organization liquidated, employees pool their resources to buy company shares and participate in the management of the business. This type of reorganization has not only proven to be an effective strategy for survival, but also for increasing profitability. The American experience, however, may not apply in eastern Europe considering the region's bleak business climate. Worker-management buyouts may have a better chance of succeeding if state-owned companies in the former communist countries are reorganized into smaller units manufacturing a limited number of items.

In the eye of the beholder
Article Abstract:
The retina is the means by which we convert light into signals, which percolate into our brains via the optic nerves, and it is through these means that the monitor of our computer transmits information to our brain. However now colored images are scanned into our retina, by means of semiconductor lasers or special light emitting diodes, making it the most efficient manner to get an image into our brains.
