University-based virtual alliances could spur technological innovation
Article Abstract:
The creation of Centers for University-Based Technological Innovation is proposed as a mechanism for universities in providing leadership in research and development. Consisting of multidisciplinary teams, the centers will establish virtual alliances with multifunctional teams from the industry and cost-effectively utilize funding support from government. While this approach promotes scientific research and engineering technology, it will also facilitate the education and training of scientists and engineers.

R&D meetings in open space
Article Abstract:
Open Space Technology is a deceptively simple approach that can make significant contribution to the research and development (R&D) effort. It is created to improve organizational function by eliciting quality and rapid decisions from diverse groups. It is composed of three mechanisms, namely the circle, the bulletin board and the market place, and guided by four principles and one law. It begins with the circle mechanism in which participants are seated in a circular arrangement while conducting a meeting.
