The use and management of teams: a how-to guide
Article Abstract:
Those responsible for the creation and management of teams should be aware that there are four basic sorts of teams: problem-solving teams, simple work teams, integrated work teams and relay teams. There may sometimes be a need for more than one of these team types. The key factor for all types of teams is the size and scope of a specific project. Team management must be moulded to the type of activity needed. However, there are certain management tasks that must be undertaken in all teams, irrespective of team type.

Article Abstract:
Individual people mould the group to which they belong, and are in turn moulded by that group, according to Citibank Corporate Technology Office Vice Pres Susanne Kelly, co-author with Allison-LoBue Group Chmn and Chief Cybernetics Officer Mary Ann Allison of 'The Complexity Advantage.' She feels that self-organization simply happens, and is neither good nor bad. Allison believes that it is possible to generate precision and quality without employing a command-and-control management style through self-organization.
