Nuclear waste disposal in new Mexico and Nevada
Article Abstract:
The notion of disposing of nuclear waste by burying it in an isolated geological site for thousands of years was first supported in 1957 and seriously considered in the 1960s and 1970s. Progress in this direction has been painfully slow worldwide. The US has prepared two areas where nuclear wastes could be safely discarded. One site is near Carlsbad, NM, and the other is in the Yucca mountain northwest of Las Vegas, NV. An eyewitness account of the preparation of these facilities is discussed.

Computing Together
Article Abstract:
Distributed computing usually means that a computation is being performed by a number of computers, even for extremely lopsided distributed systems. Multiprocessor arrays are a form of distributed computing, where data are given to small units to perform calculations on. More rare are distributed computations involving large machines executing loosely coupled programs.
