On spacecraft attitude display
Article Abstract:
A calculation minimized procedure for the graphics display of spacecraft attitude changes is presented. Based on the attitude errors, the body orientations with respect to two fundamental reference frames are computed and plotted using multiple viewports. The display is continuously updated with the help of double buffering techniques on a bitplane-oriented screen. As an alternate scheme, the use of segment definitions is considered. Computation time as well as device overhead are effectively reduced by appropriate choice of the mathematical model and related hidden surface algorithm. Also discussed is the extension of the procedure for complex surface geometries and under projections along arbitrary directions. (Reprinted with permission of the publisher.)

Manufactured wood joists - noncollapse failure
Article Abstract:
An investigation was conducted after a balcony deck collapsed in a condominium project in South Carolina. Various architectural and structural defects were found, one of which was the vertical web buckling of the pre-manufactured I-shaped wood joists. It was found that these defects affected the main building elements, resulting in the possibility of structural collapse. An analysis is presented on the noncollapsefailure of the wood joist system in the structure, including recommendations toprevent this type of failure.

Autos, Cars and Voitures
Article Abstract:
Peugeot has suffered four consecutive years of deficits and may require aid from the French government. Chrysler and British Leyland Ltd. (BL) have benefited from government rescues. The French could learn much from these successes. Europe has an over supply of carmakers and would be better off without Peugot. The government will have to be firm in demanding changes at Peugeot, if it does give its support.
