Programs perform normal curve calculations
Article Abstract:
Three programs for personal computers that were written in BASIC could be used at high sigma values and as a substitute for standard tables. The programs utilize the trapezoidal rule, keeping an approximate integration to determine the area under the normal curve. The calculations are done on the right half of the normal curve only. The first program calculates the area under the normal curve from zero to the given multiple of sigma and the area beyond that point. The second program sizes up the distance from zero to the multiple of sigma that covers the area. The last program resembles the second except that it utilizes the area beyond the sigma value of interest.

Highway safety programs and the need for quality-based methods
Article Abstract:
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement Breakthrough Methodology was as applied in 10 community programs aimed at reducing traffic accidents. Results show that the programs yielded significant traffic safety-related improvements such as increased seatbelt use by teenagers and improved safety of the elderly when crossing dangerous intersections. The ingredients of the success of the programs are discussed.
