Putting a cork on abrasive fluids
Article Abstract:
McCanna Plant Specialty Inc., along with Arco Chemical Co., developed a special valve design that prevents leaks and reduces maintenance costs in toluene-diisocyanate process. The valve ball is manufactured of ceramic material that can withstand corrosion. It is also made of sealing materials that showed zero leakage when tested at the manufacturer's laboratories. In addition, the bonnet gasket is made of Hastelloy C and spiral-wound PTFE that can tolerate thermal cycling effects. The new valve design enabled Arco Chemical to reduce maintenance and shutdown costs related with broken valves.
