Reconstructing the Territories
Article Abstract:
The main towns in the Northern Districts, formerly known as the West Bank, and Gaza District, formerly known as the Gaza Strip, are set to come under increasing pressure in the near future as populations rise rapidly. There is some potential for expansion, but they rely heavily on Israel for employment and there are severe infrastructure problems. Planning will have to focus on both short-term emergency action and longer-term measures, and must be characterised by a certain element of flexibility and a gradual approach to change.

The small matter of manufacturing
Article Abstract:
UK manufacturing industries are considered to be in decline, yet production has increased even after two serious economic recessions. Planning strategies still tend to concentrate on the service and leisure sectors even though they are facing decline in some areas. Placing manufacturing industries in urban sites will improve local employment prospects in deprived areas and strengthen the local economy.
